Why have you become a teacher?
I became a teacher because I love reading and writing, and I wanted to share this love with others. As I began to teach high school literature and writing, however, my reason changed. Now, I teach for the thrill of watching the faces of my students when they discover something new. I teach for the moments when my students dig in and give their best effort to overcome a challenge. And I teach for the shared triumph when my students share what they know with confidence.
Who is your most memorable teacher and why?
My most memorable teacher was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Carrie Hutcherson. She truly engaged her students in the learning process. We completed a service project on our school grounds where we designed and constructed a small pond and sitting area for our school to enjoy. What a wonderful introduction to the idea of community service!
