Discovery Program
The Discovery Program is an intervention-based approach to assist students who are exhibiting minor academic challenges as indicated by a psychological evaluation. The purpose of the program is to assist them in ways that will help them keep pace with the school’s curriculum based on their individual needs, while still maintaining the same level of expectation and rigor for all students.
Discovery is not a special education program but does assist various types of learners so that they are able to reach their full potential in Eastside's rigorous learning environment. Potential students who currently have a 504 plan, IEP, and/or recommendation from a recent psychoeducational evaluation and desire to be considered for this program, should complete an application and provide all documents required for review. Due to limited space in this program each year, Eastside's Discovery Review Board will assess all completed application files in mid-March, immediately following our Priority Enrollment Period, and make enrollment decisions thereafter based on program availability within the student’s specific grade level. Please note, this program is an additional cost beyond our normal tuition fees and is not available for potential new students beyond fifth grade.
If eligible, students and parents meet with our Discovery teachers to develop a plan that is unique to each student and may incorporate strategies for study, organization, and test-taking, along with academic assistance. If interested after reading and understanding the scope of this option for your student, you may contact our Admissions Coordinator to discuss further.
